The old bridge at Mostar, Bosnia was built during the reign of Suliman the magnificent 500 years ago. For centuries, the Christian Croatian Bosnians lived on the Left Bank and the Moslem Bosnians lived on the Right Bank. They were allies against the Serbs early in the latest war. After the Serbs moved north to lay siege to Sarajevo, the Croatians centuries old hatred of the Muslims boiled over and they started shelling across the river. In the process, this ancient bridge was completely destroyed. In Serbo-Croatian, Mostar means "old bridge". Canvas size: 16" x 20" $1,200 |
